Mastering the denim on denim look is definitely not an easy conquer. In a way, it doesn’t make much sense. And let’s be honest…it is a frightening thought that you may end up looking like Britney Spears at the 2001 MTV Music Awards.

After a long week, Happy Hour was a must one afternoon.  Wanting to wear something fun but a little different from everything else in my closet, I tried the easiest version on the “denim on denim” concept. Simply… lighter denim on top of darker denim.  Added a few colorful accessories, bright lipstick and done.
Next thing on my mind was what drink to order during happy hour.

A few tips on wearing denim on denim…

Stay away from wearing denim on denim AND wearing denim accessories. If you do that it is a promise that you will look like Britney Spears in 2001.

Try adding a heel or wedge to your denim on denim style. It gives your outfit a put together look. Or if you are a flats person, try a bright colored flat that will grab attention.

Start with a lighter denim and then a darker denim either on bottom or top. If you feel like you have mastered this look, go for slightly similar denims. Mix and match similar shades by adding texture, like a cropped distressed denim skinny jean and sleeveless denim top.

I am all about trying to find the “perfect third piece.” You know, that third item of clothing that you wear that either makes or breaks your entire outfit. I’ve learned through trial and error that it is best to stick to basics when it comes to your third piece. Instead of buying a hot pink cardigan that you will only wear once and while, invest in a neutral piece. This white vest is the perfect versatile fashion piece. Wear it now with jeans and a white tank. Wear it in the Summer with a pastel dress. And wear it during Fall with a black long sleeve turtle neck and dark denim.

Celebrating my 25th birthday yesterday, I really wanted to wear something that made me feel good. I go through phases with clothing. One day head over heels with dresses and then the next day only wanting to wear boyfriend jeans, but the one item of clothing that I will always be in love with is a white shirt. Whether it is a muscle tee, oversized, v-neck or turtleneck…there is just something about a white t-shirt.  I recently purchased these jeans at H&M on a whim. I’m usually super picky about my denim. Sticking the receipt in a place that I would remember it and thinking I would be returning them within a week, I’m happy to say I was wrong. I can’t tell you the last time I have bought light wash jeans.

Jemma Kidd’s Make-up Secrets

Growing up I was never that little girl gawking at herself in the mirror playing with makeup. Never being interested in makeup until later in life meant many trial and errors. Knowing that I wasn’t born with the magic touch, I’ve had to self teach myself.  After watching multiple makeup tutorials on YouTube I’d like to say I’m not half bad. Recently I purchased Jemma Kidd’s Makeup Secrets book and it gives multiple tips on the basics of makeup. From smokey eyes to contouring this book has it all.

MAC Hang Up

Moody, Plum-like & Mysterious. These words come to mind whenever I see this shade of lipstick. It was my first intense dark shade of lipstick I purchased years ago. The other day I while passing MAC I remembered the moody color and purchased it asap.

Clear Elastic Holders

As you can tell in my recent style post, Easy Festival Style, it’s back to short hair. After a much needed hair cut,I forgot how difficult it can be to simply put my hair in a pony tail. Having an angled “lob” (long bob) all of my hair ties are too large to actually use. I found these tiny clear elastic hair ties that make putting short hair up much much much easier.

Surf Wax

Hard to find, but certainly worth it. I’ve read reviews about this wax before and I am so happy I finally gave in and purchased it.  This is my go to product for beachy waves.

Spring Cleaning: Closet Organization

Spring Cleaning: Closet Organization

Don’t know where to start when it comes to spring cleaning? We are here to help.

With the first day of Spring right around the corner, that can only mean one thing…Spring Cleaning. When it comes to organizing, I’d like to consider myself a pro. Not only do I find myself surprisingly good at it, but I also enjoy it and especially when it comes to closet organization.  Here are a few tips and guidelines I like to follow to keep my closet organized to a T.

To Keep Or Not To Keep….That is the question.
First things first. Before organizing decide what clothing you can’t live without and the clothing your itching to throw out. Best advice? Ask yourself a few simple questions.

2015-03-17_22-09-22

Simple BUT after asking yourself these little questions will not only be able help you get rid of pieces you never wear, but you will also figure out what your style is. It may take a while but try on your clothes, touch the material to see how many wears you have left and when in doubt ask a trusted friend!  Whatever you a decide to get rid of, Donate it! Whether you donate to someone you know or to a Goodwill or The Salvation Army, donating is the way to go. I usually clean my closet out about three times throughout the year and donate my used clothing to the nearest Goodwill.

Invest.
Invest in storage containers and draw dividers that will help you organize your clothing and accessories. Another investment? Hangers! It is amazing how different your closet will appear when you have all of the same hangers.

Now That You Know What You Are Keeping…Organize It!
First, I start with “type.”
Tank Tops &  Sleeveless shirts, short sleeve, quarter length sleeve, long sleeve and cardigans. Remember, we are Spring Cleaning so store your coats, heavy sweaters and any other wintery type of clothing. I store all of my scarves, coats and sweaters in long under the bed containers.

Next, Color.
After organizing by type, it is time for color. Starting from white fading to blush ending in navy fading to black, color organize your tank tops first, then sleeveless shirts and so on. You will now be able to find things more quickly!

Do What Is Best For You.
Make the clothing you wear most often, the easiest to access. Depending on how large your closet it, have your favorite pieces easiest to get to.

Lastly, Display!
Display your favorite items! Everyone has that can’t-live-without style item that gives them a ton of confidence. So why not display it? I have a sectioned off clothing rack where I display my new additions and favorite oldies.

What are some of your tips to organizing your closet?

Currently Obsessing…Sneaker Love

Currently Obsessing…Sneaker Love

(Left to Right: Blogger Sincerely Jules,Stylist & DVF Style Ambassador Brittany Hampton, Street Style )

Trend Watch: First came the espadrille, then the classic slip on, now sneakers.
From the streets of Paris Fashion Week to style bloggers roaming the streets of New York, sneakers are the new go-to shoe. Never before did I think that I would be see women dressed in head to toe couture..while wearing sneakers. This statement has nothing to do with women wearing sneakers, but more to do with the fact that I’ve simply never been a fan of sneakers. I sadly do not have an athletic bone in my body, so unless I was at the gym working out I never wore sneakers. Plus, due to my height I have always been a high-heel type, being 5’1 a few added inches are appreciated.

Flats? Yes. Slip-ons? Sure. Sneakers? Maybe not. Until now that is…

Confession: I have fallen in love with the sneaker concept. I’m Into the unexpected aspect of wearing sneakers with dresses and skirts. Instantly overwhelmed with a “cool girl” sort of vibe. After looking for the perfect athletic yet not too athletic sneaker (because that makes a lot of sense right?) I have found exactly what I was searching for. I purchased these on Saturday and literally have not taken them off since. Stay tuned for some style posts featuring these dreamy sneaks.

Kat Von D Studded Lipstick in matte rich violet
As Mardi Gras approached this year, I was searching high and low for a few festive looks.  I’ve always wanted to try a purple lipstick, but was a bit timid. Once I saw this matte violet by Kat Von D, I fell in love. Now not only will I be wearing it during every Mardi Gras but don’t be surprised if you see me wearing it over the weekend.

Elizabeth and James  Nirvana White
Normally I stick with Prada Candy perfume but once I ran out I purchased the Elizabeth and James Nirvana White roll-on perfume. With a much stronger scent than Prada Candys clean floral scent, Nirvana White may be a closer runner-up as my new signature scent.

Beauty Blender
This.is.simply.awesome. Perfect for applying makeup and contouring. I have seen these before but never really thought it would make that much of a difference in makeup application. I purchased one for contouring purposes and I am so happy I did!

Stila All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner
To be honest…I have had this liquid eyeliner for a while.  I never used it until recently (due to my horrible skills in perfecting winged eyeliner…I am slowly getting better though, promise.) and now I am using it constantly. The smooth application does smudge and lasts literally all day.

Microdermabrasion Scrub
I have spoken in previous posts about my facial acne scars and I can honestly say that I have never used a facial product better than this one.  This is by far one of the best facial scrubs I have ever used.  The beads in the microdermabrasion scrub are unlike most scrubs. Use it with a Clarisonic and watch your acne scars slowly diminish. This is now one of my all time favorite beauty products.

Valentines For The Not So Mushy

Every year I make my boyfriend a handmade Valentine’s Day card. I must be honest…they do not always come out as well as I’d hope, but I think it is a sweet gesture that he can keep forever. If you are not into making your own Valentine’s Day cards, then check out these not so mushy classics!

1. For pizza lovers ( …I mean who isn’t)

2. For couples who are not always the most appropriate

3. Let’s be honest, “hungriness” is a real thing.

4. Must I say anything else?

5. For your one and only.

6. For the couples that can make it through anything.

Urban Decay On The Run Palette

I use this palette everyday.  I love wearing neutral eye shadows and a dark lip color, which this palette is perfect for.

Biomega GLOW

For Christmas my cousin bought me a ton of new hair stuff to try, luckily this was one of the products she introduced me to.  Living in New Orleans, there is always humidity but this does Biomega GLOW does the trick.  It also gives my hair a finished shiny look.

Benefit’s Stay Flawless 15 Hour Primer

I used to use Smashbox’s Photo Finish primer but I always thought it was super heavy. Changing things up I tried Benefit’s Stay Flawless 15 Hour Primer and I fell in love.  I love that it is a stick so it’s super easy to put on and it is also light and airy feeling.

RUSK Freezing Spray

This hairspray is perfection.  Anti-humidity and no build up.

BareMinerals Mineral Veil

BareMinerals Mineral Veil is the perfect finishing touch to your makeup look. I like to put it over my lips as well so my lipstick lasts longer.
